INSOL Scholars Award 2010 - 2011

As a result of the temendous success and enthusiasm of the INSOL Academic Group INSOL is looking to work more closely with the academic profession.  INSOL appoints up to three scholars annually.  Each scholar will represent a specific region namely, Europe. Africa and the Middle East, The Americas and the Pan Pacific Rim.

The aim of the Scholars Award is to provide members of INSOL information on current developments in insolvency and related matters across the regions with the assistance of the INSOL scholars.

We would ask you as a senior member of the INSOL Academics Group to propose another colleague for this prestigious award.

Academics referring a candidate are asked wherever possible in support of the recommendation to provide a list of the candidate’s publications.

The scholarships will be awarded based on the application and supporting documents provided. No interviews will be conducted for this award. Preference will be given to academics with 2-8 years experience. We would be grateful if you could provide one paper from their list of publications for review.

The deadline for suggestions is the 1 July 2010. A panel will then review the candidates and a decision will be taken by the end of July.

The INSOL Scholars will be required to fulfil certain minimum requirements during their fellowship, including:
 

  • General devote 10-12 hours to INSOL projects a month;
  • Prepare monthly regional case studies and legislation updates for the Scholar Section of INSOL's new Electronic News Update.
  • Each scholar will be invited to write a technical paper in respect of their region in consultation with INSOL.  This paper will be used as part of the INSOL technical series, which will be published by INSOL.
  • Prepare specific research as requested.
  • The Scholar may be requested to present regional updates and/or participate as panle members at INSOL conference as requested.
Knowledge and understanding, skills and other attributes of the applicants:
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of insolvency and related laws.
  • Contribute to the advancing knowledge of insolvency law.
  • Demonstated ability to communicate complex ideas and information effectively in writing.
The INSOL Scholar fellowships are part-time. The stipend will be $12,000 per year and does not include benefits. The stipend will provide compensation and fund the INSOL Scholars’ research and other expenses incurred while providing services to INSOL.
