Though several associations had been formed on behalf of professionals serving in the individual state court systems, none had been established as a resource for those who practice within the Federal Courts of the United States of America. NAFER was established for just this purpose: to advance the awareness of – and resources for – those who work as professionals in the field of federal equity receivership. NAFER’s reputation for excellence in both membership and member resources quickly grew. Starting with the pioneering group of thirteen, NAFER has grown to over 275 members in just seven years. Our membership is made up of high-level professionals in the insolvency, bankruptcy and restructuring worlds. In 2015, the leadership of the organization recognized the fact that, while appointed by district court judges as receivers over US matters, many federal equity receivers deal with multi-lateral fraud schemes that require interaction with administrators and liquidators in other jurisdictions relative to offshore assets, claims, and litigation. Thus, the NAFER International Committee was formed and a membership with INSOL established. Since then, NAFER has now held four International Conferences in Grand Cayman, Chicago and Miami. Based upon the multi-national interest in building collaborative relationships with U.S. Receivers (and vice-versa), the International Committee created a new International Associate membership category for the association. NAFER’s mission is to be the preeminent organization for federal equity receivers, their professionals, and others seeking to become involved in federal equity receivership work. NAFER is dedicated to providing excellent receivership education and networking opportunities and instilling confidence in those selecting NAFER receivers and their professionals. NAFER’s Objectives are to: 1) Provide a forum for receivers and the professionals who support them to share solutions on legal and practical issues they face. 2) Provide educational programs and networking opportunities through regional meetings, an annual national conference and special international events. 3) Develop a set of “best practices” and ethical standards for equity receivers. 4) Improve the quality, efficiency, and harmonization of receiver practices. 5) Create a repository of legal research and briefs on topics commonly faced by receivers. 6) Instil confidence among federal agencies on the skills and expertise of NAFER members. NAFER’s Annual Conference is the highlight of the year for NAFER. Each year, the planning committee brings together top experts from across the country and – now – from around the world. We will be celebrating the 10th Annual Conference in 2021 at the Ritz-Carlton Marina del Rey in California, October 21-23, 2021.
