The Australian Restructuring Insolvency & Turnaround Association (ARITA) represents professionals who specialise in the fields of restructuring, insolvency and turnaround.
We have around 2500 members and subscribers including accountants, lawyers and other professionals with an interest in insolvency and restructuring.
Eighty five percent of Registered Liquidators (corporate insolvency practitioners) and Registered Trustees (personal insolvency/bankruptcy practitioners) choose to be ARITA members.
Our ambition is to lead and support our members, and the profession generally in the efficient management and resolution of businesses and individuals who are facing financial distress.
We achieve this by providing innovative training and education, upholding world class ethical and professional standards, as well as partnering with government and promoting the ideals of the profession to the public at large. In 2025, ARITA delivered over 78 professional development sessions to over 5,800 attendees.
ARITA promotes best practice and provides a forum for debate on key issues.
We also engage in thought leadership and public policy advocacy underpinned by our members’ needs, knowledge and experience. We represented the profession at 12 inquiries, hearings and public policy consultations during 2025.
Structure and Management
Strategic direction and governance is the responsibility of our board of directors who are drawn from our membership across Australia. ARITA’s activities are managed by a professional team lead by the CEO, John Melluish.
In support of our highly regarded Code of Professional Practice, ARITA has a professional standards regime and investigates complaints and concerns about member conduct.
Education, Conferences and Publications
New entrants into the profession are encouraged to undertake our two- day Introduction to Insolvency Program. Our Essential Skills series provides structured monthly technical training that helps firms ensure their staff’s skills are enhanced and maintained.
