Australian Restructuring Insolvency & Turnaround Association (ARITA) - Australia

The Australian Restructuring Insolvency & Turnaround Association (ARITA) represents professionals who specialise in the fields of restructuring, insolvency and turnaround.

We have more than 2300 members and subscribers including accountants, lawyers and other professionals with an interest in insolvency and restructuring.

Around 82% of Registered Liquidators (corporate insolvency practitioners) and 86% Registered Trustees (personal insolvency/bankruptcy practitioners) choose to be ARITA members.

ARITA’s ambition is to lead and support appropriate and efficient means to expertly manage financial recovery.

We achieve this by providing innovative training and education, upholding world class ethical and professional standards, partnering with government and promoting the ideals of the profession to the public at large. In 2022, ARITA delivered over 80 professional development sessions to over 5,000 attendees.

ARITA promotes best practice and provides a forum for debate on key issues.

We also engage in thought leadership and public policy advocacy underpinned by our members’ needs, knowledge and experience. We represented the profession at 14 inquiries, hearings and public policy consultations during 2022.

Structure and management
Strategic direction and governance is the responsibility of our board of directors who are drawn from our membership across Australia. ARITA’s activities are managed by a professional team lead by the CEO, John Winter.

In support of our highly regarded Code of Professional Practice, ARITA has a professional standards regime and investigates complaints and concerns about member conduct.

Education, conferences and publications
New entrants into the profession are encouraged to undertake our two- day Introduction to Insolvency Program. Our Essential Skills series provides structured monthly technical training that helps firms ensure their staff’s skills are enhanced and maintained.

After a minimum of three years of experience we recommend those looking to build a career in the profession to undertake our Advanced Certification program.

ARITA Advanced Certification is the specialist accreditation for restructuring and insolvency professionals. This post graduate level program is offered in partnership with UTS and offers the participants the opportunity to complete specialised study in either insolvency or restructuring and turnaround. ARITA Advanced Certification is:

  • Australia’s preeminent insolvency and restructuring course with over housands of graduates since 1991
  • the only recognised qualification to become a Registered Liquidator or Registered Trustee
  • the only education pathway to becoming an ARITA Professional Member.
ARITA also runs technical discussion groups and seminars, holds annual State- based and national conferences, and publishes the ARITA Journal each quarter.

The highly valued ARITA Member Handbook contains important resources for practitioners including the ARITA Code of Professional Practice, and our website – arita.com.au – provides information for members and the public on all aspects of insolvency.
