Dear Delegates,

It is with a heavy heart that we write to inform you of the Board’s decision today to cancel the INSOL Annual Conference in Cape Town due to the ongoing worldwide outbreak of the coronavirus (COVID-19).

As you can imagine, much deliberation has gone into making this difficult decision. However, the health and safety of our delegates around the world and staff is our top priority.

As more information has become available in the last 48 hours regarding the spread of the virus and the further restrictions on travel and quarantine protocols in certain countries, we recognize the potential negative impact this can have on all of you. Rather than host a conference which does not live up to the high INSOL standards we have set for ourselves, and in fairness to our delegates, we have cancelled the event and will refund registration fees or transfer them to apply to our 2021 congress in San Diego.

On behalf of the entire Board, we thank you all for your continued support of INSOL International. As you may recognize, a significant amount of our revenue each year comes from the income at the Annual Conference. The cancelling of this event is unprecedented and the return of registration fees represents a significant hardship to the organization due to the non-reimbursable costs. The income provides for our ability to participate in global education and training initiatives which facilitate cooperation amongst jurisdictions and assisting with the development of new insolvency and restructuring laws. To the extent you have flexibility, we would be grateful if you would consider donating your registration fee in lieu of a refund or carry forward request. This will allow us to continue with critical projects we have planned for the remainder of the year.

Lastly, we would like to thank our sponsors, and all of our many supporters for your efforts leading up to this point. In particular, our Conference Co-Chairs, Felicity Toube QC of South Square, Stefan Smyth of PwC, and our Technical Co-Chairs, Dr. Eric Levenstein of Werksmans Attorneys and Nicolaes Tollenaar of RESOR NV, and the Main Organizing Committee who have put in immeasurable hours to guarantee a first rate event. Our staff, under the leadership of Sonali Abeyratne and Tina McGorman, have done an incredible job preparing all aspects of the conference under these challenging circumstances.

Please allow us a few days to make the necessary cancellation arrangements and we will be in touch directly regarding options to request a refund, carry forward or donation of registration fees.
