Distressed Airlines – Navigating Stormy Skies and Rough Landings
Date: November 2025 - Exact Date TBA
Aviation restructurings rarely follow a straight path. This webinar takes a closer look at airlines that faced complex restructurings with sharply different outcomes — from recovery to administration, sale or dissolution. Drawing on case studies from Jet Airways, Scandinavian Airlines, and AeroMexico, the panel will unpack how strategy, timing, and market conditions shaped the results.
Against the backdrop of an uncertain economic environment and growing recessionary pressures in 2025, the aviation operators and their advisors face renewed challenges. The discussion will explore how legal and financial professionals can respond when plans falter, stability slips away, and preserving value becomes a moving target.
We welcome restructuring and insolvency professionals, legal and financial advisors, and others involved in complex cross-border matters to join us for a focused discussion on navigating aviation distress when the runway shortens, and hard lessons matter most, shaped by the practical lessons and insights of the panellists with direct experience across these airline restructurings.

Distressed Airlines: The Modern Toolkit for Asia and Beyond
Monday 28 October 2024
This online webinar explored issues arising in the restructuring of airlines in Asia. Our experts shared their experiences on the restructuring of three Asian airlines: (1) Thai Airways, (2) NOK Air, and (3) Hong Kong Airlines, and the restructuring of LATAM Airlines, based in Chile. This diversity of restructuring cases enabled participants to take a comparative view towards airline restructuring which, in some jurisdictions, might be influenced by domestic policy considerations.
Additionally, our experts discussed legal and non-legal issues which may arise in an airline restructuring exercise. The former comprises issues such as the Cape Town Convention and the Gibbs Rule, and the latter consists of issues such as the management of crucial stakeholders, as well as conducting refinancing exercises for the financially distressed airline.
