Become a Fellow

The Global Insolvency Practice Course (GIPC) is the only manner in which someone can become a Fellow of INSOL International. The designation “INSOL Fellow” is an indication of professionalism and knowledge. The Fellows of INSOL International are a globally connected network of respected practitioners working together to elevate the insolvency profession with consistent levels of expertise, able to collaborate and facilitate the resolution of cross-border cases more readily.

About the Global Insolvency Practice Course

The establishment of the Global Insolvency Practice Course resulted from huge amount of interest that the INSOL International membership demonstrated for an advanced educational qualification focusing on international insolvency. Successful completion of the course results in the title of “INSOL Fellow” being bestowed on the recipient.

Modern business enterprises operate in multiple jurisdictions. The financial distress of a global business is no longer limited to a single jurisdiction and can no longer be effectively addressed by a single jurisdiction’s insolvency system.

The fast-growing number of cross-border insolvency cases, and the adoption in many jurisdictions of rescue regimes and cross-border insolvency procedures, present new challenges to the restructuring and insolvency profession. Practitioners and turnaround experts need to have extensive knowledge of the transnational and international aspects of the legal and financial problems facing a business in distress. The Global Insolvency Practice Course provides this knowledge.

The style of the GIPC (also known as the fellowship programme) is intensive, carried out over three short timeframes, so those taking the course must dedicate the time and energy needed to get the most out of the opportunity. Many sessions are interactive and each requires the full attention of the participants.

Testimonials

Omar Salah, INSOL Fellow, Norton Rose Fulbright, The Netherlands – Class of 2023 / 2024

I would highly recommend the Global Insolvency Practice Course of INSOL International. The course is an intensive and enriching experience which allows participants to explore restructuring tools in different jurisdictions, understand the dynamics of negotiations in restructurings and - most importantly - connect with restructuring professionals from across the globe.

Johnny Law, INSOL Fellow, Interpath Advisory, British Virgin Islands – Class of 2022 / 2023

Any Fellows who have completed the course would have no doubts always share their experience and tell you the benefits of the course.  Apart from the in-depth knowledge that can be gained during the course, there is also the opportunity to connect with the industry experts and professionals across various jurisdictions.  It was intensive for the duration of the course.  However, it’s totally worth.

Nienke Lillington, INSOL Fellow, Cayman Islands – Class of 2022 / 2023

I would recommend the Global Insolvency Practice Course  to anyone who wishes to do a deep dive into insolvency laws, regulations, and procedures around the world. The GIPC’s rigorous academic programme is provided by practitioners in the industry, and you will find that your GIPC cohort similarly exists of eminent and experienced IPs and attorneys from around the globe. You will be left not only with a Fellowship of which you may be proud, but also with a global network of friends and colleagues who can be relied upon when cross-border issues arise.

Rocky Ravinder Gupta, INSOL Fellow, UNITEDJURIS, India – Class of 2019 / 2021

I highly recommend the INSOL International Global Insolvency Practice Course to anyone seeking to deepen their knowledge and expertise in cross-border insolvency. The course's content and structure are designed to enhance your understanding of insolvency regimes in key jurisdictions. My experience with my cohort was exceptional, and I thoroughly enjoyed the course.

This course is particularly valuable for gaining a comprehensive understanding of the opportunities, challenges, and solutions provided by various insolvency regimes across different jurisdictions. Participants are given the unique privilege to collaborate with and learn from distinguished practitioners from multiple jurisdictions, encouraging the development of significant professional relationships within their co-participants and the broader Fellows network. Despite the challenges posed by COVID-19, our cohort thrived, forming relationships that blossomed over two years of regular interaction, resulting in lasting friendships.

Rob van dan Sigtenhorst, INSOL Fellow, BJTK, The Netherlands – Class of 2018 / 2019

I participated in the GIPC in 2018-2019. In my view, it’s an outstanding programme. While I already had significant experience in cross-border, complex restructurings before the course, I still learned a lot and got a different, deeper perspective on the things I already knew. Maybe even more important though are the amazing classmates – excellent restructuring professionals from all over the world – who you get to know and build such strong, lasting ties with.
