Maria Isabel is a lawyer, and has experience in the areas of insurance, corporate law and insolvency. During the last 11 years has worked in the Superintendency of Companies, a government agency that supervises companies and acts as insolvency judge for companies and merchants in Colombia (South America). From 2000 to 2010 she was head of the Superintendency of Companies for the Southwestern Region of Colombia, based in Cali, the city where she was raised and studied. Her work included acting as an Insolvency Judge in approximately 390 cases and supervising companies, especially in the identification of insolvency risk and solving conflicts between partners, shareholders, etc. Currently she is the Superintendent of Companies with Delegation for the Supervision and Control of Companies, and so has had to move with her husband, also a lawyer, to Bogota, Colombia's capital city. Her work focuses primarily in the supervision of companies to ensure compliance with laws and statutes, to identify insolvency risk and to prevent management abuse, lack of transparency, money laundering among others. Her hobby is photography. She enjoys spending time with her family and dogs, horseback riding in the family farms where coffee and sugarcane is grown.
