Mr. Miguel Torres
Dr. Miguel M. Torres is currently the CEO of MMT – Insolvency Practitioners and Company Rescue Experts, VISITING SENIOR RESEARCH FELLOW at the University of Leeds, where he was a MARIE CURIE RESEARCH FELLOW between 2015 and 2017, INSOLVENCY & RESTRUCTURING PRACTITIONER in Portugal and ARBITRATOR of CAAD for the resolution of tax disputes.
Between 2012 and 2014, Dr Torres was Visiting Research Fellow at several European Universities, including Uppsala University, KU Leuven, Polytechnic of Milan. His academic work has been recognized with several awards and recognitions, including an AIB certificate of recognition for outstanding contribution as a conference programme track chair, a nomination as a finalist for the prestigious Buckley & Casson Dissertation (AIB 2014) and the Best Dissertation Proposal at the COST Doctoral Think Tank of the (EIBA 011). In 2014 he was invited as a speaker in the UNCTAD World Investment Forum. In 2015 & 2016, he has been a panel member of EIBA Doctoral Symposiums and served as Track Chair in the International Business Policy Track (AIB 2017).
During his career, Dr Torres has published several scientific articles and various chapters for books published by Palgrave and Elsevier. He co-edited and published the book DEATH FIRMS on the developing topic of internationalization and insolvency, bringing together law and international business. Between 2008 and 2015, he taught a variety of courses, including International Economics, Industrial Economics, Introductory Economics, Auditing, Financial Accounting at the University of Aveiro and Catholic University in Portugal.
Prior to his career as an academic, Dr Torres has been working in International Business as an International Trade Consultant, in Turnaround and Corporate Efficiency Improvement, as a Forensic Accountant and Mediator in Dispute Resolution. The outcome of his policy advice work is his direct participation in a number of public and private European co-financed transnational projects and involvement in the international promotion of Portuguese businesses within several European, South American, North American and African markets.
