Mr. Nicolas Velasco Jenschke
Superintendency of Insolvency and Entrepreneurship
Nicolás Velasco Jenschke is attorney at law, graduated from Alberto Hurtado Jesuit University. He has focused his professional practice in commercial, administrative and insolvency law, with special focus in cross-border insolvency. These interests come from his professional experience gained at the Superintendency of Insolvency and Entrepreneurship (former Superintendency of Bankruptcies). In this institution, Nicolás has worked as advisor on legislative matters, being a member of the drafting commission of the Law No. 20.720 – the new Chilean insolvency law; as legal advisor member of the Law No. 20.720 implementation team; and currently as Chief of International Coordination and Audited Entities Unit. Nicolás has participated as delegate from the Government of Chile at the General Commission and at the Work Group V of UNCITRAL in Vienna and New York. He was also responsible of the adequation of the UNCITRAL Model Law on Cross-Border Insolvency for its incorporation in the Law No. 20.720. In addition, Nicolás was in charge of coordinating the capacitation of the Chilean civil judges and secretaries in the new insolvency law and taught this law to under graduated students and field professionals. Finally, he has given talks on several seminars related to this area and has published a handful of articles, especially on the new cross-border insolvency regulation.
