Amala Umeike is the founding Partner of Stren & Blan Partners. He is a graduate of Law from the University of Nigeria and holds a Master’s Degree in Banking and Finance Law from Queen Mary University of London.

Amala is a seasoned Legal Practitioner who frequently acts for various well-known and world-renowned Corporates and HNIs regarding their legal matters in Nigeria.

Amala leads the Firm’s pioneering Turnaround & Restructuring Practice, the first of such a practice in a Nigerian Law Firm offering creditor or company-triggered Administration and Corporate Rescue services to distressed companies. He is renowned as one of Africa’s foremost corporate restructuring experts and acts across Africa on corporate turnaround and restructuring mandates. In Nigeria, Amala has been involved in some of the most significant Administration matters where he is frequently appointed as an Administrator/Chief Restructuring Officer to rescue distressed companies, and is a thought leader in that field of Insolvency. 

Amala has also acted on significant fraud, asset tracing and asset recovery matters. He also has demonstrated experience acting on white-collar crime, investigations and crisis management-related mandates. 

Amala serves as the Honourary Legal Adviser to the Nigerian-German Chambers of Commerce (NGCC) and sits on the Board of Directors of several Companies.

Amala chairs the Committee set up by the Corporate Affairs Commission to review the Nigerian Insolvency Regulations of 2022. He was a member of the technical committee that provided support to the Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council (PEBEC), chaired by the then Vice President of Nigeria (through the Enabling Business Environment Secretariat) on issues relating to ease of doing business in Nigeria. He specifically served as a member of the technical committee that reviewed various portions of the Bill that was eventually enacted as the Business Facilitation (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act, 2023. Amala also served on the World Bank-assisted Committee that provided support to the Enabling Business Environment Secretariat on crafting an insolvency framework for Nigeria. This birthed the insolvency regime as contained in the Companies and Allied Matters Act, 2020.
